From August 21-26, 1998, an eleven member team traveled to
Guatemala for Peace Officers For Christ International. The goal was to
see if the door was open to train officers and present the Gospel as previous
teams had been able to do in Caracas, Venezuela. The First Lady of Guatemala
had specifically invited POFCI to provide training to academy cadets and
to explain that they could be officers and Christians! The Lord was obviously
working mightily within the Guatemalan government due to years of peayer
and faithful service of missionaries who had gone before us. The original
invitation came through the efforts of Reed Olson, who is the Latin American
Outreach Director for Focus on the Family. Focus on the Family graciously
provided 2500 Spanish Bibles for our first outreach into Guatemala.
The results of this first team effort were truly historic and blessed
by the Lord. A small POFCI team trained more than 1400 police officers
in just five days. During that time they witnessed approximately 800 officers
make decisions for Jesus Christ in the middle of the National Police Academy!
